The December 2008 Major Market MLS Statistical Survey, by the Canadian Real Estate Association continues to illustrate the strength of the Saskatoon real estate market.
The survey shows that year over year, Saskatoon unit sales are down 22.9%. This doesn’t seem like much of a positive sign, but it does if you compare it with the national average of -34.4%. Keep in mind that comparing 2008 against the white hot market of 2007 will usually make statistics, such as unit sales look softer. Comparing 2008 against any other year, we would see a unit sale increase.
The average residential unit price in Saskatoon, year over year, is up 4.4%. The national average is -9.9%. Even though we saw some softening in prices during part of 2008, average price growth remains stable in Saskatoon.
