SASKATCHEWAN’S POPULATION KEEPS ON GROWING

Government of Saskatchewan, News Release, September 2009, www.gov.sk.ca

Up 16,288 People in Past Year; Up 3,941 in Past Quarter

The number of people living in Saskatchewan grew by nearly 4,000 in the second quarter of 2008 and by more than 16,000 in the past year, according to the latest figures released by Statistics Canada. There were 1,015,985 people living in Saskatchewan as of July 1, 2008.

Premier Brad Wall said the consistent and sustained population is one more sign of the province's economic transformation.  "Saskatchewan today is a very different place than it was just a few short years ago when more people were moving out," Wall said. "Today, there is excitement and opportunities and optimism, and that is attracting people from all over Canada."

Wall said the flow of Saskatchewan people to Alberta has been turned around, as more people are now moving from Alberta to Saskatchewan
