Saskatchewan Wages On Best Climb
Sask. Wages on best climb, The StarPhoenix, 29 January 2011
Average weekly wages in Saskatchewan are up in a 12-month period by a nation-leading 5.7 per cent.
While Saskatchewan was tied with Prince Edward Island for having the biggest weekly wage increases in the country in a 12-month November to November comparison, the news in the latest Statistics Canada data released Friday was not as positive for Saskatchewan in the shorter term.
The $862.83 average weekly wage in Saskatchewan in November was down by a seasonally adjusted 0.6 per cent compared with October.
The total number of "payroll employees" in Saskatchewan in November was 443,100, a raise of 0.2 per cent in 12 months. That figure does not include farmers or other self-employed workers.
Across Canada, the average weekly wage in November was $865.17, which was up 4.4 per cent compared with 12 months earlier.

Saskatchewan's average weekly wage of $862.83 was about $3 below the national average. But Saskatchewan's wages ranked third-highest among the provinces, behind Alberta, at $1,016.27, and Ontario, where the average was $891.42.
