Saskatchewan hits new record in population growth
Fourth quarter population growth highest in 40 years
Saskatchewan has not seen the population grow this fast since 1953.
The province hit a new record in population growth in the last three months of 2011. Last year a total of 17,000 new people made Saskatchewan home. 5,000 babies were born and more than 10,000 people came from other countries. A record number of 3,000 immigrants came over in the last three months of 2011.
This brings the total population up to 1,067,600 people according to Statistics Canada. The latest population report says the net gain was 4,100, the most for a fourth quarter.
The growth rate of 0.38 between October and December marked a bit of a slowdown from earlier in 2011 but it is still the second fastest growth in the country after Alberta.
