Housing prices gain ground

The price of new homes in the Saskatoon region continues to be lower than last year, but is slowly gaining ground in 2009.

Statistics Canada reported Thursday in its new housing price index that the price of a new house in the Saskatoon census metropolitan area (CMA) dropped 5.1 per cent in September compared to the same month in 2008.

On a month-to-month basis, the price of a new home rose 0.5 per cent from August to September.

Nationally, the price of a new house dropped 2.7 per cent this September from 12 months earlier and rose 0.5 per cent from August to September.
